Level 1 & Level 2 Class descriptions for Little Notes Music School

Little Notes Music School Summer Camp

Absolute beginners (level 1)

For children ages 8 and up with no previous sewing experience.

In this series of 6 weekly lessons students will be introduced to basic hand and machine stitches using fun, take home projects. Each week we will focus on a different sewing skill. Students will be given project kits for some classes but will also be provided with a list of items to bring to for others. For the machine sewing classes, students need to bring their own machines.

Week 1

Basic hand sewing stitches and sewing buttons. Students will learn how to correctly thread a needle, prepare thread for hand sewing, starting and stopping, straight stitches, and some decorative stitches. Students will need to bring their own scissors, hand sewing needles and thread snips.

Week 2

Fabric, grain, right and wrong side, correct cutting and pinning of fabric. Students will need to bring their own scissors, pins, a seam ripper, a seam gauge, and a fabric marking pen or pencil (see class supply list). Students will receive instructions on what they need to bring to the sewing machine class for next week.

Week 3

Meet the sewing machine In this class students will meet their sewing machines and learn how to correctly thread the machine, wind bobbins, how to set tension, and make some simple stitches. We will be making cards, or a note book cover practicing stitches by sewing fabric on paper. Students need to bring their own sewing machines, with the correct bobbins, feet and needles to this class.

Week 4

More machine stitching. In this class we will begin to learn about how the machine works when sewing fabric, how to correctly pin fabric and using the sewing machine to sew a simple project.
Martha Stewart Beach Cover Ups (for almost anything)

Week 5

Seams, seam finishes and inserting a zipper.

Week 6:
